Temples in India: Srirangam Ranganathar Kovil

Anyone can appreciate the art and architecture behind South Indian temples. Especially if you happen to pass-by Tiruchirappalli, you cannot avoid to miss seeing the gigantic tower or Raja Gopuram - standing 237 feet tall.
Although lived there for 21 years and seen the Raja Gopuram constructed from flat (mottai) to full, I never had a chance to take pictures of the temple to cover every aspect of the art and architecture. This time during my visit to India, I made it a point to cover this in detail. I wanted to visit Tanjore too but could not. I have decided to cover one piece of such during each of my visit.
Srirangam Temple is unique for several reasons - the tall Gopuram, the long main idol (or moolavar) made of limestone, Ramanuja and Kambar visited, the large pond, the Door (and belief to go) to Heaven once a year (during Vaikunda Ekadasi) etc.
With almost 100 pictures and 60+ pages, this is almost like a website. Visit the temple here
