| Recently I had
a chance to take two trainings - one on J2EE and the other was on Business
Objects. Both are technical and readers who see *&%@#$) better skip this
blog. The interesting part of the training was only the instructors than the
subjects. The first one was a white American and all the attendees were
Asians and the second one was an Indian and all the attendees but for me
were Americans. Whatz so funny about this? Well, the first training was more
technical in IT and the second one was for business. Paradoxes of life? |

| My
brother-in-law is not a computer savvy and was asking me if I could get a
simple and inexpensive laptop. Simple deal - he wanted
to create word documents, spreadsheets, presentations, browse, check mails
and hear some songs and that's all, nothing fancy. I was very sure that I will get a new laptop as I did not want him to face issues later but changed my mind when I saw a laptop for $200. (Courtesy www.ebay.com) Believe it, it had P2 500 MHz 128 MB RAM 4 GB HDD and Win95. I could get a CD/DVD Drive for $10 and 56K modem/ethernet for another $10. Man, which era are we in? I sigh at my first desktop bought 2 years ago for $1400; I am sure it should be a museum gadget worth less than $100. Technology changes so fast and the price drops too! |

| Today I got a
mail from some airline company saying that if I join their Red Carpet Club,
I get 500 miles. Of curiosity I follow the link, go through the form and
checking the fine print info at the end with ** That reads $500 is the
annual membership fee. Wow! There was a time I was crazy of accruing
frequent-flier miles. I have my colleague who has over 100,000 miles from an
airline but believe it he traveled less than 10,000 miles. All the miles
through bonus miles only. I don't know if true but I enjoy reading the
website that talks about several ways to get miles (Gary's
Free Frequent Miles) One of my friend has a hobby of switching long distance carriers just to get miles. While I do not want to comment on this, I am surprised at the money he is spending to get the miles. I feel the real concept is to encourage people to fly. And flying is more fun! |

| Wonderful Movie | |
| Had a chance
to watch a movie called Asthiva in Hindi. Simply put, a great movie indeed
for Hindi film industry. The director has dared enough to take a movie that
revolves around a down-to-earth story. Tabu is married to Shri for 25 years - happily? Tabu with a lie behind and Shri too. The moment they come to know their lies, problems start. Well, it starts when Tabu receives a huge will from her Music Guru. Shri does little investigation and has questions that concern Tabu's loyalty. Well, Tabu has been having an illicit son that Shri did not know. Shri goes for divorce quoting his vanity but Tabu is the real hero when she puts the answers. Wonderfully crafted - no questions. Male chauvinism is well exemplified. Nothing to complain but for some logic. Only in movies, people will not be allowed to explain things; only in movies people will work on assumptions and presumptions. Why is it like that? Why not a movie that makes it completely realistic? Why should we quit just because we found fault with others? Is there a not a thing called compromise that we could get by talking out? I remember about a case I read once; wife asking for divorce at 65. When asked why she said, I have been waiting all along for my kids to get married and now that they are married, I am happy to get away from him. Imagine what kind of husband he should have been. But I appreciate all the dependent wives of the community. Great performance by Tabu. I guess she won the national award for best acting in this movie. |
