An Eternal Journey

Sujatha Rangarajan, most popularly known as, Sujatha is a great writer in Tamil. His work ranges from General Fiction to Science Fiction to Ancient Tamil Literature to Modern Poetry to Drama to Serious Essays to Short Stories to Dialog Writing in Movies to producing Movies. (Did I miss any?) Wow! clearly a multi-faceted personality. He being from the place I was born or studied in the school where my father worked are nothing to do with my affinity towards him. Rather his immense knowledge, tireless reading, enthusiastic endeavor, adaptable to changing needs, down-to-earth thinking and great observation skills that impressed me.

I don't recall when I read first his work - but it was in my school days for sure. Since then, I could never stop appreciating his work. Every work is a treasure. His style of narration is the first thing to attract. Within the first page, the reader gets sunk into the story and cannot drop until finished. And every book packed with information - I cannot tell even one work of his as crap - each a beauty on its own.

of my favorites and think as his best:

  • Nirvana Nagaram
  • Erakkuraya Sorgam
  • Aathalinaal Kaadhal Seyveer
  • Vaaymaye (Sila Samayam) Vellum
  • Nagaram
  • Odaathe
  • Ganesh vs. Vasanth
  • Dr.Narendhranin Vinotha Vazhakku

I used to wonder at his varied interests in his stories - and writing targeted at the audience. And he has the power to absorb into his story. You would try to flirt with Vasanth, feel matured like Ganesh or feel like on of his characters for sure. His book 'Silicon Sillu Puratchi' is a milestone in Tamil Books for its simple but detailed narration of Computer revolution.

It is indeed fortunate that this genius is very active in Tamil Cinema. His dialogues in movies like 'Indian', 'Boys' and 'Kannathil Muthamittaal' deserve high appreciation.

And we are fortunate to have his variety of work with continued enthusiasm. Can age slow it? Guess never!
