February 2008

This time, I heard about a temple that got famous in the recent times - a temple of Brahma - the God of creator as per Hindu mythology. Got curious to see owing to its interesting history (proud Brahma lost all his heads and power wanted to get back all and prayed Shiva worshipping 12 lingas) and the trip was not disappointing.

This Brahma temple is in Tirupattur, a place around 30km from Trichy. Its a very small temple and did not look anything special until seen and heard. The temple is very similar to any other temple with a sanctorum for God, Goddess, other associated Gods/God men Dhwajasthambam and a pond. 4 things attracted me the most and worth sharing with all and a visit to the temple:

  • The main idol of Shiva Linga is lit naturally from sunlight even after 7 praharas or corridors (thanks to priest that demonstrated switching all lights) - amazing to know how they constructed. On top of this, 3 days every year, sun's rays directly fall on to the idol -not sure how but truly amazing!

  • The huge idol of Brahma with full of tejas - very beautiful

  • The umbrella made of rudhraksha for nandhi. It looked really grand and special

  • The jeeva samathi of the yoga founder Patanjali within the temple

Note: For the ones that believe... Brahma is the creator of fate and so visiting this temple will change your fate :-)
