OREGON Courtesy United Airlines, we could get an award ticket to fly anywhere within US. We chose Portland, Oregon as it was a preferred place to visit my friend (Subbu), my wife's friend (Sudha) and the fact that Seattle is 3 hrs from Portland. We reached Portland in time. The airport looks beautiful. Sudha and her husband Badri had come to Portland Airport to receive us. After the initial leisurely talks and a delicious home cooked lunch, we visited the Silver Falls of Oregon. The place - that is 45 min drive from Portland - is very scenic and has as many as 7 falls, small medium and tall. Although there was not much water in most of the falls, the falls were not looking bad. There was some beauty lying in them. One such example is the double fall - there was a fallen tree across the fall but it made a great appearance from a distance as if there is a fight between natures of two different kinds. Another interesting aspects of these falls is that, you could reach their backside to see through the falls. It is a great experience to see the water droplets falling at great speed. To visit all the falls, there is a hiking trail and you got to walk all the 5 miles. You could take a shorter trail but you can't visit all of them. The day was complete after a wonderful dinner at the Chevy's. The next day, we had gone to visit my friend Subbu, his wife Mathuram and their daughter Aishwarya. Good food, simple people and cute daughter. It was a nice experience to hear and see Aishwarya playing the Veena instrument. We headed to Rose Garden next. This is one of the most famous attractions in Portland. Roses Roses and Roses - of varying colors and cues. The garden had lots of roses and it was a good place to spend the pleasant evening. Portland downtown is one such beautiful place, I was told. Yes, it is indeed in fact. Alongside the river - Columbia, the downtown looked very pretty in the night. The day ended with a great dinner made by Sudha. Her favorite Poritcha Sathamudhu was there for dinner. The trip to Portland was great - the weather really helped us. Though the trip was short, it was sweet. Too many memories for two days. Useful Links: |
