East Side Towers:

East side of the temple also hosts the chariots or carts for the Ursavar (the mobile God). There are three carts used for three separate occasions: Thai Ther in January, Chithirai Ther in April and Panguni Ther in December.

I could not capture either of the carts in open condition as I was there off-season but when decorated for the official run, its a pleasure to the eyes.

There are beliefs that the smoother the cart runs the better the year would be and if there are obstructions, its a bad sign. I was also told that once one of the carts were stuck for a long time and took months to take out.

Not sure if it is coincidental but before the day of Chithirai Ther, it always rains.

All these carts are made of wood but few years ago, they also used a stone chariot I heard. This is inside the 1000 pillar hall where its built upon as its no more in vogue. Fortunately I could take a picture of that too.

Its unfortunate that the tower cover is not respected at all with all posters on it.
