Many temples in India have wonderful architecture and work of art and Srirangam Renganatha Temple is a classic example. To the other side of 1000 Pillar Hall, you find a mini-hall with very artistic pillars or columns. The sculptures are so complicated and clearly portrays true imagination. The one here is a good example. Look at the number of characters in this - horse, soldier, elephant, several Gods, several women and some that I cannot make out. I won't be surprised if it was made of one single rock. There were few more of this type of pillar that have similar theme with several characters. I do not know if there is a name for this kind of sculpture/art. This is inside the Sesharayar Mandapa opposite to 1000 pillar hall. See more of this kind here |
